Muscle Relaxing Treatments

At Edgbaston Aesthetics we use prescription only products. The products that we use in our Muscle Relaxing Treatments are Dysport and Botox. They are both a purified botulinum toxin protein and have been available since the early 1990s.

Muscle Relaxing Treatments are very popular for treating overlying lines and wrinkles in the face caused by everyday facial expressions.

The cost of this procedure is from £180 depending on how many areas are treated.

Please note that treatment prices are subject to change and can vary depending on factors attributable to the treatment area, condition of the skin and difficulty of the procedure.

Mandatory Medical Statement

The medication used in this procedure is Prescription only and can only be prescribed by a qualified doctor.

What are the benefits of this treatment?

This treatment relaxes the muscles which inevitably reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. The most common areas this treatment is used to treat:

  • Frown Lines (between the eyes and forehead)
  • Forehead Lines
  • Crows Feet
  • Marionette and Chin Lines
  • Smokers Lines

Please note the treatment may be less effective for people aged over 60 due to the muscles underlying the skin are no longer as firm.

How does it work?

Facial expressions occur when the brain sends nerve signals to the muscle tissue in the face and the muscle contracts. This is what makes us frown or squint. Over time the continuous action of frowning or squinting will leave the overlying skin unsmooth with lines and creases.

Botulinum Toxin is a purified protein that blocks the signals that the brain sends to the muscles. This prevents the muscles from contracting meaning that when your facial expression changes the overlying skin appears smoother and unwrinkled. Untreated muscles in the face work as normal allowing a normal range of expression.

What is the Treatment Procedure?

The medication is injected using a disposable micro needle. The solution is injected very precisely into the specific location on the face. The numbers of injection sites are dependent on what areas of the face require treatment.

Who cannot receive the treatment?

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Anyone with a history of anaphylactic shock
  • If laser treatment of chemical skin peels have been carried out 6 weeks prior
  • The presence of implants close to the region to be injected
  • Local infection at or close to the injection site

What are the Potential Side Effects?

  • Slight bruising or swelling to the injected area
  • Some discomfort upon pressure at the injection site
  • Potential discolouration at the injection site
  • There is a very small risk of infection at the injection site.
  • A rare side effect is drooping of the eyebrows or eyelids

Most potential side effects will resolve themselves after 3-8 days of the treatment. If they do not, you are advised to contact Edgbaston Aesthetics.

How long does the treatment last?

The treatment itself will take around 30 minutes to be completed. The effects of the treatment will be clearly visible within 1 week of the treatment and the effects last in the region of 3-6 months depending on skin condition and life style. There is a 2 week follow up appointment after every treatment. A touch up may be administered if our skilled team feel that it is needed to maximize the results of the treatment (This is at the discretion of the practitioner).
