Frequently Asked Questions about Muscle Relaxing Treatments

What is a Muscle Relaxing Treatment?

Botox is the common name for this procedure. Botulinum Toxin is a purified form of protein and the products that Edgbaston Aesthetics use are Dysport ® and Botox ®. They work by effectively blocking the signals that the brain sends to the facial muscles that cause us to frown. This only takes place in the treated muscles so facial expressions are not affected

How is it administered?

A micro needle is used in this procedure. A small amount of the medication is injected into the specified muscles. This prevents the muscles from contracting allowing the over lying skin to become smoother. Anaesthetic cream maybe used in the procedure depending on the size and place of the area.

What areas are treated?

This treatment can be used in a variety of places on the face. The most common places for the treatment to be administered are the forehead, lines between the eyes and forehead and crows feet (around the eyes).

Does it hurt?

The procedure is carried out using a micro needle. This is to minimise any discomforts that may be experienced throughout the procedure. You may feel slight tingling at the injection site. This treatment lasts around 30 minutes requiring no recovery time. It is often referred to as a lunch break treatment

Are there any side effects?

Muscle relaxing treatments are considered very safe. Some bruising/swelling may be experienced after the treatment but this usually resolves itself after a few days. Some people may experience discomfort at the injection site. In extreme cases there maybe drooping of the eyelid that can last a few weeks but this is a very rare occurrence

Who will carry out the procedure?

The medication used in Muscle Relaxing Treatments is a prescription only medication and so only a fully qualified Doctor or trained Nurse are legally allowed to perform this procedure. Edgbaston Aesthetics have both fully qualified Doctors and Nurses that are fully trained in the field of Medical Aesthetics.

When will I see the results?

The effects of the treatments will become visible over the next 2-3 days and will be fully visible over 7-14 days.

How often should I repeat the treatments?

The effects of the treatment will last in the region of 3-6 months. It is advised that the treatment is repeated within this time period to maximise the effects.

How many areas can be treated?

This is completely dependent on what you require. Some people may only want 1 area treated, others may choose to have 2-3 areas treated at a time

Any one above the age of 18 is eligible to have this treatment. Some exceptions are if you are pregnant or breast feeding, if you have a history of anaphylactic shock, if you have had a skin peel within the last 6 weeks, if there is presence of implants close to the area to be treated, or there is a local infection at or around the injection site

How long after treatment can make-up be applied?

It is fine to wear make up after the procedure. It is however important that make up be patted on to the treated area and NOT rubbed.

What follow-up service is available?
